Kiwiberry: new research leads to an increase of 16% of the yield

Kiwifruit equipo de investigación

Did you know that new research revealed more about the sufficiency ranges of the kiwiberry? During the 9th symposium on kiwifruit in Porto, the results of this research were reported. We’d like highlight 2 of them:

  • For the first time sufficiency ranges for the different minerals in the leaves were determined.
  • Foliar nutrition has a positive effect on the yield and quality of the kiwiberry:
    - An average increase of 16% of the yield compared to the control. This applies to plants with a reduction of soil fertilization up to 50% and a total foliar nutrition program.
    - Increase in hardness of the berries after 4 weeks: best storage life for plants that were treated with a total foliar nutrition program:
             ‘Issai’ +5,3kg/cm² - ‘Geneva’: +1,9kg/cm² - ‘Weiki’: +0,5kg/cm² compared to the control

Our colleague Jonas Decorte from R&D department gave a lecture about the kiwiberry research project that lasted 2 years in collaboration with prof. Filip Debersaques from Ghent University. The presentation highlighted the mineral deficiency symptoms and the sufficiency ranges for the different minerals in the leaves of the kiwiberry plant.
